Service, Culture & Excellence – The St. Regis Florence

This is the ultimate place you need to see and experience in Italy! Truly a delight!

Location

In the heart of the historical city center, overlooking the banks of the Arno river, The St. Regis Florence is just a short walk from all the masterpieces and not-to-be-missed sights the city has to offer. Facing sister hotel the Westin Excelsior across wide, pedestrianized Piazza Ognissanti, the St. Regis lies a 10-minute walk west of the Ponte Vecchio. Sufficiently removed from the worst of the crowds and yet within easy reach the main shopping district and many of the major sights, the hotel enjoys the best of both worlds, and the wide sweep of the river from the front rooms gives a real feeling of space.

St. Regis Florence

Style

The breathtaking Renaissance palazzo (ex-Grand Hotel) is designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. Now grown comfortably into its skin, the opulent Florentine Renaissance-meets-contemporary design aesthetic still works beautifully.

There are marble hallways, coffered frescoed ceilings, a mix of antique and custom-made furnishings, vast gilt mirrors and magnificent Murano glass chandeliers, but don’t expect it to be at all stuffy; there is a cool, hip edge to the place and a jazzy soundtrack sets the scene as soon as you walk through the revolving door.

Rooms

The 99 rooms and suites have bells and whistles galore, and here too, there is a savvy mix of old and new. Around half have Arno views for which it is well worth spending out the extra euros. Choose between ‘Renaissance’, ‘Medici’ or ‘Fiorentino’ styles; all are inspired by  Florence’s decorative traditions with painted coffered ceilings, reproduction frescoes, richly-colored velvets and brocades, fine prints and canopied beds while also providing 21st-century toys such as ipod docks and Bosé radios.

Fashion victims can book into the austere, shades-of-mushroom Bottega Veneto suite designed from Creative Director Tomas Maier.
The Rock stars can book into the magnificent, top floor Presidential Suite; Keith Richards and Madonna have both laid their heads here recently. All rooms have Starwood’s trademark ‘Heavenly Beds’ which are what they say-truly heavenly. Splendid marble bathrooms come with tubs and rain-showers, piles of thick white towels, televisions seamlessly set into mirrors and generous quantities of the luxurious cosmetic amenities.

Also available the Iridium Suites My Blend by Clarins, two luxurious and spacious spa suites completed with circular chromo-therapy Jacuzzi tubs and double beds.

Service & facilities

Service is as professional and attentive as you can dream of, yet staff are also amiable and discreet, a difficult-to-achieve balance. Guests are immediately put at ease with check-in formalities carried out at a table with arm chairs in the welcoming lobby-cum-library rather than at the usual formal reception desk. There is a dedicated concierge for the usual reservations and local advice, and Premium Deluxe Arno Rooms and up come with a personal butler who will unpack your bags, do your ironing and bring complimentary tea or coffee in bed in the morning.

Public areas include the sunny, ground floor library with its leather Chesterfields and arty books and the atmospheric Winter Garden with its splendid stained-glass ceiling, an all-purpose, grand ‘salon’ that acts as bar, restaurant, tea room and general flopping space. There is a gym to work out and believe me nothing is missed here.

Home of uncompromising quality and service, 1 Michelin star Restaurant Winter Garden by Caino exemplifies The St. Regis Florence’s dedication to signature hospitality. The innovative food concept, which aims at reinventing the Italian gastronomic tradition, is based on local raw ingredients from Tuscany.
Cantinetta is the private wine cellar of the hotel, where our sommelier will guide wine enthusiasts on a gourmet voyage through the most intense and rarest Tuscan flavors, while the outdoor terrace, with views of the Church and Piazza Ognissanti, is the perfect place to join the Italian ritual of “aperitivo” admiring the Lungarno.
